At North Mead, Computing helps children understand how technology works, solve problems through computational thinking, create digital content and use technology safely and responsibly.
Our Computing scheme
We use Purple Mash as our main Computing scheme and resource. It supports computer science, information technology, digital literacy, programming, data handling, digital creation and online safety. Purple Mash supports our curriculum; it does not replace it.
Computing at North Mead
- Computer Science — algorithms, programming, logic, debugging, networks and digital systems.
- Information Technology — creating, organising, presenting and communicating information.
- Digital Literacy — using technology safely, responsibly, critically and confidently.
What children learn

| EYFS | Cause and effect, sequencing, patterns, problem-solving, digital devices and safe use of technology. |
| KS1 | Create and follow algorithms; program simple sequences; create digital content; organise simple data; understand basic online safety. |
| Lower KS2 | Use repetition and selection, debug increasingly complex programs, work with data and multimedia, and understand networks and the internet. |
| Upper KS2 | Apply decomposition, selection and variables where appropriate; design, test and improve programs; create purposeful digital outcomes; evaluate information and digital risk. |
Online safety and digital citizenship
Children learn about privacy, passwords, communication, cyberbullying, gaming, social media, harmful content, scams, misinformation, digital footprints, grooming and reporting concerns. The same principles of safety, respect and responsibility apply online as offline.
How we know children are learning
Assessment comes through practical tasks, completed digital work, programming outcomes, pupil explanations, debugging and problem-solving. We look for increasing independence and transfer of computational thinking.
