Together We Make a Positive Difference.
At North Mead, our staff share one clear purpose: to make a positive difference to every child, every lesson, every day.
Strong schools are built by strong teams. Our teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral staff, inclusion team, office staff, site team and leaders work together so that children experience high expectations, excellent teaching, strong relationships and the support they need to succeed.

Subject Leadership
Every curriculum subject has identified leadership.
Subject leaders are responsible for understanding the quality of their subject across the school and ensuring that the intended curriculum is taught successfully.
Their work includes:
- curriculum planning and progression
- supporting teacher subject knowledge
- checking curriculum coverage
- learning visits
- work scrutiny
- pupil voice
- teacher voice
- reviewing assessment
- identifying priorities
- evaluating impact
Our subject leadership model is based on: Evidence → Diagnosis → Action → Implementation → Impact
For more information, visit Our Curriculum.
Â
Inclusion & Safeguarding Team
Inclusion is a whole-school responsibility, supported by a strong specialist team.
Â
Our Inclusion Team works closely with children, families, teachers and external professionals to identify barriers and provide the right support at the right time.
This includes support with:
- SEND
- communication
- emotional wellbeing
- behaviour
- attendance
- family circumstances
- transition
- safeguarding
- external-agency involvement
Our staff help children and families where barriers outside or alongside academic learning are affecting success.
Support can include:
- emotional literacy
- family support
- behaviour and regulation
- attendance
- trusted-adult support
- referrals
- work with external services
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead is Mr Ben Burpitt (Principal and DSL). We also have a wider team of trained Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads across leadership, inclusion, pastoral and operational roles.
Families who have a concern about a child can speak to a member of staff immediately or email [email protected]. For more information, visit our Safeguarding page.
Â
Internal Alternative Provision
North Mead has two additional provisions within the school.
Bumblebees
Our Internal Alternative Provision supports children with significant and complex needs through highly personalised teaching, communication support, sensory and regulation provision and carefully planned wider-school inclusion.
Pheasants
Our Targeted Plus provision supports children who require a higher level of personalised support than can ordinarily be provided within mainstream classroom provision alone.
Our alternative provision remains firmly connected to the wider North Mead community.
Â
Teachers
Our teachers are responsible for delivering an ambitious curriculum and creating classrooms in which children are expected and supported to succeed.
Teachers work together through:
- phase teams
- subject leadership
- curriculum planning
- assessment
- moderation
- professional development
- coaching and collaboration
Every teacher is also responsible for meeting the needs of pupils with SEND within their class.
Teaching Assistants and HLTAs
Our support staff play an important role in learning, inclusion and pastoral care.
They work alongside teachers to:
- support access to learning
- reinforce teaching
- deliver carefully planned intervention
- support communication
- promote independence
- help children regulate
- provide additional pastoral support
- contribute to specialist provision
Support is designed to help children become more independent, not more dependent on adults.
Office and Operations Team
Our office and operations staff help ensure North Mead runs safely, efficiently and smoothly.
They support:
- families
- admissions
- attendance
- communications
- finance
- administration
- premises
- health and safety
- school operations
The school office is often the first point of contact for families and will help direct enquiries to the right member of staff.
Telephone: 0116 276 7761
Email: [email protected]
Â
Our site team helps maintain a safe, secure and welcoming school environment.
This includes responsibility for areas such as:
- site safety
- security
- premises
- maintenance
- emergency procedures
- safeguarding support
Â
Working as one team
Although staff have different responsibilities, we do not work in isolated teams.
Teaching, SEND, pastoral support, safeguarding, attendance and leadership are closely connected.
Where a child needs additional support, colleagues work together to understand:
- What is the barrier?
- What does this child need?
- Who is best placed to help?
- Is the support making a difference?
This joined-up approach is central to the way North Mead works.
Professional development
We expect adults to keep learning too.
Staff development is closely connected to school priorities and may include:
- curriculum and subject knowledge
- teaching and learning
- the Learning Loop
- learning climate
- safeguarding
- SEND
- phonics and reading
- assessment
- behaviour and relationships
- coaching
- leadership development
The aim is to create a culture where professional learning improves what children experience in classrooms every day.
What we expect from our team
Everyone who works at North Mead contributes to our culture.
We expect staff to:
- place children first
- maintain high expectations
- be consistent
- build strong relationships
- act professionally
- work collaboratively
- respond to safeguarding concerns
- support inclusion
- continue improving their practice
- demonstrate our school values
The standard we set for ourselves is deliberately high.
Â
Our commitment
Our staff are united by a shared ambition: to give every child an excellent education, exceptional opportunities and a genuine sense of belonging.
Â
Every Child. Every Lesson. Every Day.
Together We Make a Positive Difference.
