Our school. Our families. Our community.
North Mead is proud to sit at the heart of a diverse and vibrant community.
Our children bring different languages, cultures, traditions, experiences and perspectives into school every day. We want those strengths to be visible in school life and reflected in the experiences we provide.
Community Corner is where we celebrate our community, share what is happening locally and highlight the people, organisations and partnerships that help make North Mead such a special place.
Stronger schools. Stronger communities. Brighter futures.
Celebrating Our Community
North Mead is a school where everyone should feel that they belong.
Across our school community, families speak many languages and represent a rich range of cultures, faiths, traditions and backgrounds. We want children to be proud of who they are while developing curiosity, respect and understanding of others.
Throughout the year, we create opportunities to celebrate the community around us through:
- cultural and community celebrations;
- music, art, food and storytelling;
- assemblies and curriculum experiences;
- visits and visitors;
- family events;
- community projects;
- local history and heritage;
- pupil leadership;
- opportunities to share home languages, traditions and experiences.
Our differences enrich our school.
North Mead in the Community
Learning should connect children with the place in which they live.
We want pupils to understand their local area, contribute to it and recognise that they can make a positive difference.
Children may take part in:
- visits within Leicester and the wider local area;
- environmental and sustainability projects;
- performances and community events;
- charity and fundraising activities;
- local history projects;
- inter-school events;
- sporting and cultural opportunities;
- projects that improve the school or local environment.
These experiences help children see themselves not simply as pupils at North Mead, but as active members of their community.
Community in North Mead
We also want our community to come into school.
Parents, carers, community groups, local organisations and visitors can bring knowledge and experiences that enrich children’s learning.
This might include:
- talking to pupils about a career or profession;
- sharing a language or cultural tradition;
- contributing to a curriculum topic;
- leading or supporting an activity;
- sharing music, art, food or stories;
- supporting an event;
- helping children understand local history;
- participating in celebrations;
- working with our Pupil Leadership Team;
- contributing to environmental or community projects.
If you have something you could share with our children, we would love to hear from you.
Working in Partnership
Some of the best opportunities for children happen when schools work with others.
North Mead seeks to build strong relationships with:
- Local organisations
Creating experiences and opportunities for children. - Community and cultural groups
Helping pupils understand the diversity of Leicester and the wider world. - Sports, arts and music organisations
Extending children’s experiences beyond the classroom. - Local businesses and employers
Helping pupils understand the world of work and the opportunities available to them. - Charities and voluntary organisations
Giving children opportunities to contribute, serve and make a difference. - Other schools and TMET academies
Sharing experiences, expertise, competitions and events.
The purpose is not partnership for its own sake. We ask:
- What additional opportunity will this create for our children?
Families as Partners
Families are an important part of the North Mead community.
We want parents and carers to feel that school is somewhere they are welcomed, listened to and able to contribute.
There are many ways families can become involved, including:
- attending performances, celebrations and events;
- joining family learning opportunities;
- contributing ideas;
- completing surveys and consultations;
- sharing expertise, careers or experiences;
- supporting community projects;
- volunteering where appropriate;
- attending open events;
- becoming an Academy Councillor.
Community involvement does not have to mean making a major commitment.
Sometimes one conversation, one idea or one shared experience can make a lasting difference to a child.
Celebrating Leicester
North Mead children are growing up in one of the UK’s most diverse cities.
We want them to know their city, understand its communities and recognise the opportunities around them.
Our curriculum and enrichment programme provide opportunities to explore:
- Leicester’s history and heritage;
- its different communities;
- places of worship;
- museums, galleries and cultural venues;
- parks and natural spaces;
- sport;
- arts and performance;
- universities and further education;
- businesses and workplaces;
- people who have contributed to the city.
Children should know the world beyond North Mead — beginning with the community on their doorstep.
Making a Positive Difference
Our Trust vision is: Together We Make a Positive Difference.
For our pupils, this means understanding that they can contribute too.
Through curriculum, sustainability, enrichment and the Pupil Leadership Team, children are encouraged to:
- notice what could be better;
- listen to other people;
- share their ideas;
- take responsibility;
- work with others;
- and take action.
Community is therefore not something children simply learn about. It is something they participate in.
Be Part of Our Community
- Do you have a skill, experience, opportunity or idea that could enrich life at North Mead?
- Are you part of a local organisation that could work with our children?

Together, We Make a Positive Difference
North Mead is shaped by the children, families, staff and community around it.
We want our pupils to grow up proud of where they come from, interested in the people around them and confident that they can contribute to something bigger than themselves.
Our school. Our families. Our community.
Every Child. Every Lesson. Every Day.
