Welcome to North Mead 

 

We welcome visitors, volunteers, contractors and professionals to North Mead Primary Academy. 

 

The safety and wellbeing of our children is our highest priority. Everyone who comes onto the school site is expected to follow our safeguarding, security and health and safety procedures. 

 

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. 

 

Arriving at school 

 

All visitors and contractors must report to the school office on arrival. 

 

You will be asked to: 

  • sign in using the school’s visitor system  
  • provide identification where required  
  • explain the purpose of your visit  
  • wear the visitor identification provided by school  
  • follow any instructions given by office, site or safeguarding staff  

 

Please do not enter teaching areas or move around the school site without permission. 

 

Identification and safeguarding checks 

 

The arrangements for a visitor will depend on the purpose and nature of the visit. 

 

Where appropriate, the school will check that the necessary safeguarding information, identification or vetting arrangements are in place before access is provided. 

 

Visitors who do not have the appropriate checks or authorisation will be supervised as required. 

 

Contractors are expected to comply with the safeguarding and safer-working arrangements agreed with the school or Trust. 

 

While you are on site 

 

All visitors and contractors are expected to: 

  • wear their visitor identification visibly  
  • follow staff instructions  
  • behave professionally and appropriately  
  • respect children’s privacy and dignity  
  • maintain appropriate boundaries with pupils  
  • remain within agreed areas of the school  
  • follow health and safety requirements  
  • report any accident, hazard or concern immediately  
  • sign out before leaving the site  

 

Safeguarding concerns 

 

If you see or hear anything that makes you concerned about the safety or welfare of a child, do not investigate it yourself. 

 

Report the concern immediately to a member of staff or one of our safeguarding team. 

 

At North Mead, you can speak to, Mr Ben Burpitt — Designated Safeguarding Lead, or any member of our safeguarding team. 

 

Information should only be shared with those who need to know. 

 

If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. 

 

Concerns about an adult 

 

If you have a concern about the conduct or behaviour of a member of staff, volunteer, visitor or contractor, please report it immediately to the Mr Ben Burpitt – Principal. 

 

If the concern relates to the Principal, please follow the Trust’s safeguarding or allegations procedure. 

 

Concerns should not be discussed with other visitors, parents or members of staff who are not responsible for managing them. 

 

Mobile phones, photographs and recording 

 

Visitors must respect the privacy of pupils and staff. 

 

Unless specific permission has been given: 

  • do not photograph or film children  
  • do not make audio recordings  
  • do not use personal devices to record school information  
  • do not publish information or images relating to pupils  
  • do not use mobile phones in a way that compromises safeguarding or confidentiality  

 

Where photography or recording forms part of an authorised visit, the arrangements must be agreed with the school in advance. 

 

Confidentiality 

 

During a visit, you may see or hear information relating to pupils, families or staff. 

 

This information must be treated as confidential and should not be discussed outside the appropriate professional context. 

 

Visitor access to information, records or systems must only take place where specifically authorised. 

 

Contractors 

 

All contractors must report to the school office or designated site contact before beginning work. 

 

Before work starts, contractors may be required to confirm: 

  • identification  
  • the organisation they represent  
  • the work being undertaken  
  • relevant safeguarding arrangements  
  • appropriate insurance or certification  
  • risk assessments and method statements where required  
  • arrangements for access to restricted areas  
  • any risks created by the work  

 

Contractors must ensure that tools, equipment, materials and work areas are kept secure and do not create unnecessary risk to pupils. 

 

Where work could affect pupils or the operation of the school, arrangements should be agreed with the school in advance. 

 

Health, safety and emergencies 

 

Visitors and contractors must follow North Mead’s health and safety procedures. 

 

Please: 

  • follow all safety signs and staff instructions  
  • do not obstruct fire exits or emergency routes  
  • report hazards immediately  
  • tell staff about any accident or injury  
  • familiarise yourself with emergency arrangements where relevant to your visit  

 

If the fire alarm sounds, follow staff instructions and leave the building using the nearest safe exit. 

 

Do not leave the site without signing out unless instructed to do so during an emergency. 

 

Working respectfully in our school 

 

We expect everyone visiting North Mead to contribute positively to our school environment. 

 

Visitors should model the same standards we expect across our community: Ready. Respectful. Responsible. 

 

We will not tolerate abusive, threatening, discriminatory or unsafe behaviour towards pupils, staff or other members of the school community. 

 

Before you leave 

 

Please: 

  • return any visitor badge or pass  
  • sign out at the school office  
  • inform staff if any issue arose during your visit  
  • ensure any equipment or materials you brought onto site are removed or stored as agreed
