Nursery at North Mead
Free all-day Nursery: 8:30am–3:15pm
North Mead offers free all-day Nursery provision from 8:30am to 3:15pm.
Our Nursery provides children with a strong start to their education through high-quality early years teaching, carefully planned play and provision, language development and rich experiences.
Children become part of the wider North Mead community and begin developing the confidence, independence and learning behaviours that will prepare them for Reception.
Applying for Nursery
Nursery applications are managed directly by North Mead.
To enquire about availability or apply for a place:
Telephone: 0116 276 7761
Email: [email protected]
Our office team will explain the application arrangements and answer any questions.
Please note admission to North Mead Nursery does not automatically guarantee a Reception place. A separate Reception application must be made through your home local authority.
Starting Reception
Applications for Reception places are coordinated by the local authority.
For children starting Reception in September 2027, parents should apply through their home local authority by the national closing date.
If you live in Leicester City, applications are made through Leicester City Council School Admissions.
Families living outside Leicester should normally apply through the local authority where they live, even if they wish to apply for North Mead.
Reception 2027 key dates
- Applications open: 1 September 2026
- Closing date: 15 January 2027
- National Offer Day: 16 April 2027
For applications and further information, visit Leicester City Council → Primary School Admissions.
Joining North Mead during the school year – In-year admissions
Children can join North Mead at different points during their primary education.
You may need an in-year place because:
- you have moved into Leicester
- you have moved to another part of the city
- your child has recently arrived in the UK
- you are considering changing schools
- your child needs a school place during the academic year
Applications for Reception to Year 6 are made through Leicester City Council’s in-year admissions process.
We encourage families considering North Mead to contact us as well. We can tell you about the school, discuss current availability and arrange a visit.
For applications, visit Leicester City Council → In-Year School Admissions.
Children with an EHCP
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) are admitted through the statutory EHCP consultation process rather than the usual school admissions process.
Families considering North Mead are very welcome to contact us to discuss their child’s needs and our provision.
