Northfield House Mile Challenge 

 

North Mead Primary Academy was awarded funding from The National Lottery Community Fund for our Northfield House Mile Challenge project. 

 

The project was designed to help children and staff become more active and make better use of our school playing field. 

 

With the funding, a dedicated path was created around the playing field so that pupils could walk, jog or run a mile during the school day in a safe and accessible environment. 

 

Why we developed the project 

 

We wanted to: 

  • increase physical activity across the school  
  • encourage healthy habits  
  • make greater use of our outdoor space  
  • provide a safe route for regular walking, jogging and running  
  • give all pupils opportunities to take part  
  • support physical and emotional wellbeing  

 

The impact 

 

The track is now complete and is used by children and staff as part of our Daily Mile Challenge. 

 

It provides a permanent resource that helps us build regular physical activity into school life and supports our wider commitment to helping children develop healthy, active lifestyles. 

 

The project is a good example of how external funding can create a lasting improvement to the opportunities available to our pupils.
